From The Screen To The Stage: Movies That Would Make Great Musicals
Have you ever had that moment whilst watching a movie when you thought, 'Hey, wouldn't this make a great musical?' Well, I'm hear today to bring those thoughts to light. Here is a list of some of the shows I believe would make fantastic musicals, if done right of course!
If you have any suggestions, just email me and I can add it to the list, I will even give you a credit, but only if I believe it could make a great musical of course!
Enjoy!
Hocus Pocus 1994
Whilst there has been talk of this 90's family halloween classic becoming a musical for a while, we have yet to see some real progress. I would just love to hear and see 'I put a Spell On you' performed live or a full version of the haunting 'Come Little Children'. Come on! We only have Wicked as our witch musical. We need some Hocus Pocus! There is even a Facebook page requesting this production. The people have spoken. One idea I loved was for the playbill cover to be the front of the spellbook. Wicked!

Moulin Rouge 2001:
Whilst some question how such a movie could be transformed to stage and still keep the original charm and unique quality of the film, I say, that's up to a good director. I have loved this film since I was young and have dreamt of seeing it on stage, and whilst there was a small staging of the production in Germany, we need a Broadway or West End show NOW, come what may!
Mrs Doubtfire 1993:
I have loved this movie my entire life, and with the terrible passing of the brilliant Robin Williams, it has displayed why he was and will always be one of the world's greatest comedians and actors. This movie could work perfectly as a musical...with the right director, cast and score of course.
The Help 2011:
I just found this film so fun and uplifting and believe that this could carry onto the stage easily! If not a musical than a brilliant play!
The Devil Wears Prada 2006:
Ok, wouldn't it just be the greatest thing if Meryl Streep actually played the famous Miranda! This is one of those 'comfort' films for me, one that I just put on when I want to relax and warm up to an old friend. It could make a great musical...
Miss Congeniality 2000:
This is another one of those fun films that has become a 'comfort watch' for me. With a an up bit and enjoyable score, this could be a winner on the stage.
Mean Girls 2004:
This has gone down as a new comedy/drama classic, one that is up there with films like Heathers. Whilst there is news of a show in the works, we can still only hope to see this on stage soon. It would be so Fetch!
